Planning Folder

I have been working continuously on my planning folder. I have completed a lot of work for it, which has helped me to get a better insight into the process of producing a Music Magazine.

First, I brainstormed different genres of Music Magazines, I looked at Punk, Hip Hop/ Rap, Dance, Indie, Pop, Metal and Heavy Metal, Classical and Rock.

I then began to look at Magazine Front Covers, and analysed two of them. The first was the cover for "Q" Magazine, which featured Madonna on its front cover.

The second Magazine Front Cover was from "NME" Magazine, and featured the frontwoman Lovefoxxx of the band CSS.

I then analysed the Double Page Spread of a music magazine. I used the same magazine as my second Front Cover analysis came from, and the article was about the band CSS, and titled "Tired of being sexy"

I then went on to analyse two websites. I looked at the websites of both Q and NME to find the differences and similarities between the two.

I then started playing and practicing with the cameras, and took a series of photos which told a story in some way. I then evaluated my performance by rating the photos between 1 and 10 and pointing out any flaws that I had made.

I then started on my preliminary task. First I took a series of photographs around the school.
I then made drafts for the Front Cover and Contents Page of a School Magazine. Here are my finished front cover and draft for my contents page.

I then began to look at making my Music Magazine. I first sent out a questionnaire to twenty people to get an idea of what the public wanted from a music magazine.
I then made my proposal for my magazine in which I planned out my front cover, mast head, strapline, cover lines, sale lines, double page spread heading &article and planned my photoshoot.

I also made drafts for everything by hand drawing.

I then made a time plan and selected and invited the people I wanted to be in my band. The time plan documents each process of this.

After a while, my pictures were done and I felt that they had come out really well.

I then carried on, and started to put my magazine together. I started using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. I had used Photoshop before, however had to get used to InDesign. I made a draft of my Double Page Spread in InDesign to help me familiarise with the program.
